Oshakati elects new Mayor

THE Oshakati Town Council has elected Katrina Shimbulu as Mayor, replacing Engelbert Atshipara, who had served as Mayor for the past 10 years.

Atshipara, who turns 70 next month, told The Namibian that he had asked the Council to replace him so that he could serve as ordinary council member. “I really thank the Oshakati Town Councillors as well as the Oshakati community as a whole for having trusted me and kept me at the Mayor post for ten years to serve them.I think I am the first Namibian Mayor so far to serve for such a long period,” said Atshipara.The Town Council elected Skinny Hilundwa as Deputy Mayor.Angelus Iiyambo was re-elected as Chairman of the Management Committee, with Linus Shiimi as his deputy and Loise Shivolo as additional member of the Management Committee.Atshipara and Vaino Amuthenu (CoD) are ordinary members of the Council.”I really thank the Oshakati Town Councillors as well as the Oshakati community as a whole for having trusted me and kept me at the Mayor post for ten years to serve them.I think I am the first Namibian Mayor so far to serve for such a long period,” said Atshipara.The Town Council elected Skinny Hilundwa as Deputy Mayor.Angelus Iiyambo was re-elected as Chairman of the Management Committee, with Linus Shiimi as his deputy and Loise Shivolo as additional member of the Management Committee.Atshipara and Vaino Amuthenu (CoD) are ordinary members of the Council.
