Orlando Pirates look to needy

LEGAL Shield Orlando Pirates this weekend not only won their match against Buffaloes in emphatic style, but they also crept into the little hearts of at least 25 orphaned children at the Mariental Hospital on Saturday.

The team donated some present to the children worth over N$400 and this is according to the initiator of the idea, Brian Isaacs, the beginning of good things for the team. Isaacs, who is the coach of Pirates, which beat Buffaloes 5-1 in their Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup match at the town on Saturday, argues that the club cannot only receive, but should also give back to the community whenever it is possible. The club, according to Isaacs, decided to approach the hospital’s personnel and the mayor of the town, Annemarie Gorases, to give presents to the orphaned children who are housed at the hospital.Gorases at the handing over said Pirates was the first football team to have come forward and open their hearts to the children at the town.”I hope the local teams at the town will take your example,” she said.”I would like to thank the management, technical team, sponsors and players of Orlando Pirates and most importantly Isaacs who came up with this idea,” said Goreses.Isaacs said the initiative was a token of showing their social responsibility towards the needy such as orphaned children. He said the donation was the first of its kind and the club intends to continue doing that in the future.”I though that we as a club cannot only be on the receiving end, but should also put back the little that we have into the community as most of them support us as a football team,” he said.He said the players and the management was delighted to see how happy the children were and what the present really meant for them.”The donation also serves as the way of teaching the players to care for others and to be responsible citizens,” he said.He said some of the children will remember the gesture from the club for the rest of their lives, and will possibly strive to play for the side one day.He said Pirates will in future also identify other projects that are associated with the aspect of social responsibility.caption Orlando Pirates players, its management and staff members of the Mariental Hospital pictured with the orphans housed at the facility in Mariental on Saturday. The side opened up to the orphans at the town by showering them with presents on the day.Isaacs, who is the coach of Pirates, which beat Buffaloes 5-1 in their Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup match at the town on Saturday, argues that the club cannot only receive, but should also give back to the community whenever it is possible.
