Formerly known as one of Namibia’s best supported outfits, Orlando Pirates FC now face another downgrade following their poor run in the Namibia Football Association Southern Stream Division.
Following the team’s demotion to the first division, Orlando Pirates FC are faced with a bleak future.
The black-and-white outfit once boasted star-studded talent during their Namibia Premier League (NPL) campaign, but may have to join the NFA’s second division if they don’t pull up their socks.
Seated at the bottom of the first division log with a mere 13 points, Orlando Pirates FC will face equally troubled Blue Boys FC, who are languishing on the verge of the division’s relegation zone with 16 points.
It has been a huge struggle for Orlando Pirates’ management, spearheaded by former player Mabos Ortman and other former teammates, to revive the team’s fortune.
Although the season is nearing rounds 19 and 20, Orlando Pirates could surprise many who are waiting to hit the final nail into their coffin with a victory over Blue Boys.
O&L Ramblers FC will face seventh-placed Celtic FC at Ramblers Stadium. Second from bottom, O&L Ramblers, after 18 matches played, have recorded 15 points compared to Celtic FC, who have 25 points and a game in hand.
Log leaders Mariental Sport Club (SC) are comfortably leading the pack on 38 points – four points clear of second-placed Young Brazilians FC on 34 points.
Mariental Sport Club has demonstrated determination to be crowned champions, and certainly have their eyes on the elite league promotion. The log leaders will this weekend face another title contender, third-seated Try Again FC, at J Stephanus Stadium tomorrow.
Try Again FC has amassed 32 points, and they are looking to improve their position on the log standing, but the daunting challenge facing them could be another titanic battle to overcome.
Young Brazilians have a date with Date Eleven FC, who are eighth with 24 points, while fifth-placed Friends FC may have an easy walk in the park against relegation candidate Oranjemund FC at Reho Stadium.
City Boys FC will host Quiver FC, and both these sides are enjoying a comfortable mid-table standing. The match is scheduled at SKW B Stadium tomorrow.
