FLOODWATER from the upper Orange River in South Africa is slowly reaching Noordoewer on Namibia’s southern border, where a level of 21 centimetres was measured yesterday afternoon.
In South Africa, the Orange River has risen to 5,78 m at Katlani, where the Vaal River flows into the Orange. The Bloemhof dam in the vicinity is discharging about 3 400 cubic metres per second.Inflows into the Bloemhof Dam increased to 3 600 cubic metres yesterday morning and the dam was over 120 per cent full, according to Chief Hydrologist Guido van Langenhove. According to him the Orange might reach a level of 7 m along the Namibian border at the end of this week.Meanwhile, the Okavango River reached a level of 7,70 metres yesterday morning, 5 cm up from Sunday, but remained at that level throughout the day. The Zambezi River in the Caprivi Region stood at 2,40 m at Katima Mulilo yesterday, two centimetres up from Sunday.
