Opportunities for Local Creatives

August is on the horizon and with it comes a fresh batch of call-outs for creatives.

For first time filmmakers, there’s a chance to set the scene. Ambitious contemporary dancers are invited to audition with Haymich Olivier at the national theatre, while aspiring radio playwrights and theatremakers are encouraged to sharpen their skills with the national broadcaster.

Without further ado, here are three opportunities for local creatives.

Audition for a contemporary dance production

Acclaimed Namibian choreographer Haymich Olivier is returning to the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) and is in search of dancers.

Soon to present ‘LAND’, which explores the realities of “dispossession, colonial violence and forced removals in Namibia” through “physical expression and movement-based storytelling”, Olivier invites dancers over the age of 21 to audition.

Dancers should have experience in contemporary dance, physical theatre, improvisation, or related performance styles.

Auditions will take place at the NTN Dance Rehearsal Room on Friday, 1 August, from 15h00 to 19h00, and Saturday, 2 August 2025, from 10h00 to 15h00. Attendance on both days is compulsory.

Performances will take place from 2 to 4 October 2025, with weekly rehearsals scheduled from 27 August to 27 September. For more information visit ntn.org.na

Sharpen your skills with professional radio and theatre training

Aspiring creatives with a passion for radio and theatre are welcome to apply for the latest training programme by the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Drama School.

The seven-month training programme invites “dynamic individuals” between the ages of 18 and 35 to apply for the opportunity, which will be facilitated by industry professionals.

Priority will be given to unemployed applicants or individuals with flexible schedules who are able to commit to the intensive nature of the programme.

Interested parties should indicate their preferred field of training (radio or theatre) and email a one-page motivational letter as well as a portfolio or examples of previous work to makawa@nbc.na. Applications are open until 15 August.

Apply for short film funding If you have a cinematic story that needs telling, the Namibia Film Commission (NFC) invites you to submit a proposal for short films, web shorts and mini documentaries.

Applications for its 2025/2026 funding cycle are now open and the NFC is on the hunt for “fresh, local voices”. For web short films, applicants must live outside the Khomas region.

The deadline for proposals is 11 August at 10h00.

To apply, visit nfc.na/film-funding-applications.

“If you’re a first-time applicant with a passion for storytelling, this is your chance to bring your vision to life,” says the NFC in its call-out. “Let’s tell Namibia’s stories.”
