Oshana police commander commissioner Naftal Sakaria on Friday officially launched ‘Operation New Era’, which is aimed at combating crime in the region.
The operation commenced on Friday and ends on Tuesday, and is a targeted initiative aimed at combating crime during the Easter long weekend.
Sakaria issued a strong warning to criminals, saying there will be no room for criminal activities in the Oshana region over the Easter weekend as the police are committed to ensuring a safe environment for the community.
“There is no room for criminal activity in the region and we are going to be boots on the ground to effectively curb crime,” he said.
He added that members of the police will be strategically deployed to various locations throughout the Oshana region to enhance visibility and responsiveness.
Addressing a significant concern, Sakaria noted the alarming number of road accidents caused by drunk drivers.
He further addressed the issue of illegal trade.
“This is not a banana country and we cannot allow people to smuggle goods into the country while there are shops that pay value added tax,” Sakaria said.
He stressed that the police intend to make the region a desirable destination for visitors and to ensure that law and order is maintained at all costs.
He urged the community to collaborate with the police in order to effectively maintain law and order throughout the region.
