Dear editors, dear public, dear ACC, Has someone ever wondered about the scholarships the Namibian Government gets offered by foreign countries, especially China? Those scholarships are announced when these countries sign deals on high profile state visits.
But who actually gets these scholarships? Shouldn’t they be meant for those parts of society who are not so fortunate to be able to afford to pay for their studies? Shouldn’t it be those students who have shown that they are distinguished learners and would reach to higher tertiary educational levels, if only they had the means? Well, then let me ask you why those persons going to study in China are people who mostly already have a degree, and are well-connected to the Namibian political elite/ruling party? Why do they not pay with their own money if they want to go for further studies? Namibia needs to broaden its pool of educated people, not just add education to the ones who already are fortunate enough.
