An Ongwediva man was arrested after he allegedly attempted to rape and rob a woman.

The incident allegedly took place at Eefa Doukadona village in the Oshana region on Saturday.

Police spokesperson for community affairs in the region Frieda Shikole says the woman was on her way to her boyfriend’s place when she was almost raped.

“The victim started fighting the suspect and overpowered him before fleeing the scene, leaving her handbag behind. She informed the police of the incident and the suspect was tracked down to his place of residence, where he was arrested and the handbag recovered,” Shikole says.

She says upon seeing the police the suspect grabbed a pair of scissors and started stabbing himself in an attempt to take his own life.

“He is currently admitted under police guard at Oshakati State Hospital, so he has not made a court appearance,” Shikole says.
