OneAfrica journalist Maria Hamukwaya, who was reported missing after sending a distressing message to her manager saying she felt unsafe in a taxi in Windhoek, has been found.
A colleague has confirmed that Hamukwaya has been located and is giving a statement to the police.
Hamukwaya was travelling in a red Mazda Demio taxi with the registration number F110 on Friday when she began to feel unsafe.
She messaged her supervisor: “I am in a taxi F110 I want to jump out but they want to take me with them.”
Her phone was soon switched off, and attempts to contact her were unsuccessful.
The Windhoek City Police have confirmed the taxi registration number is fake.
Future Media and OneAfrica earlier on Friday issued an urgent appeal to the public for any information regarding Hamukwaya’s whereabouts.
This incident has raised concerns about the safety of reporters, particularly those on assignment.
Colleagues and friends describe Hamukwaya as a dedicated and passionate journalist, committed to bringing important stories to light.
