One-year-old dies in Sesriem fire

A one-year-old child died at Sesriem in the Hardap region after a fire broke out at the Namibia Wildlife Resorts staff accommodation on Tuesday.

Hardap police commissioner John Mwantongwe has confirmed the incident but could not give further details on the identity of the child.

“I’m on my way to Sesreim right now to find out for myself,” he says.

Mwantongwe could also not determine the extent of the damage caused by the fire.

The incident report says the fire started in one of the staff accommodation units and spread to other buildings on the campsite.

It is alleged that the one-year-old was unaccounted for when the fire broke out.

Sesriem is located at the Sesriem Canyon in Sossuvlei.
