One more suspended at Unam

THE University of Namibia’s Head of Accommodation made his first appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday, after being suspended last week on allegations of theft.

Unam Director for Communication and Marketing Edwin Tjiramba yesterday confirmed that Martino Olivier was suspended on allegations of stealing television equipment from the university, but would not elaborate on the charges. “We’re busy with our investigation, so I can’t really say anything until he is actually charged with anything,” Tjiramba said when contacted yesterday.Olivier was suspended on Friday, which was also the date of his arrest and payment of N$1 000 bail.He appeared briefly on Monday before Windhoek Magistrate Sarel Jacobs, who postponed his case until August 10 for further investigation. It is alleged that Olivier was involved in the disappearance of three M-Net television decoders meant for use by students in the university’s hostels. He allegedly bought the decoders, which cost N$8 100, with a Unam cheque.Tjiramba would not confirm these reports, but said there was a lot of speculation about what had actually happened.”We’re busy with our investigation, so I can’t really say anything until he is actually charged with anything,” Tjiramba said when contacted yesterday.Olivier was suspended on Friday, which was also the date of his arrest and payment of N$1 000 bail.He appeared briefly on Monday before Windhoek Magistrate Sarel Jacobs, who postponed his case until August 10 for further investigation. It is alleged that Olivier was involved in the disappearance of three M-Net television decoders meant for use by students in the university’s hostels. He allegedly bought the decoders, which cost N$8 100, with a Unam cheque.Tjiramba would not confirm these reports, but said there was a lot of speculation about what had actually happened.
