One Love, One Heart: Honouring Swakopmund Tourism Operators

Tour operators hold the untold stories of Namibia’s travel world. They unite individuals from various communities, design unforgettable itineraries, and fulfill travel aspirations. Without their dedication, endurance and knowledge, Brand Namibia would have failed to deliver on its promise.

A recent celebratory event set the tone to remember all those who promote Namibia’s tourism globally.

Gondwana Collection Namibia together with Abenteuer Afrika Safari organised the event for operators based at Swakopmund who missed the themed ‘Simply the Best’ Windhoek event, paying tribute to the late Tina Turner’s classic song.

The intent was to express gratitude for their exemplary devotion towards Namibian tourism. It was a heartfelt act of appreciation to the operators whose unwavering endorsement strengthens Gondwana’s objectives and animates Brand Namibia for locals and visitors alike.

Three buses slowly make their way across the sandy landscape as the sun sinks behind the Swakopmund dunes. They arrive at a scene with two frames: one of a heart, the other the outline of Namibia. Warm lights decorate each emblem, creating a radiant atmosphere for what appears to be an evening of fun and unity.

Guests are welcomed and led to a photobooth featuring the iconic Namibian dunes, one of the country’s many remarkable treasures. Everyone is excited, dancing to reggae music under the glow of the marquee tent. It is indeed a sight to see.

The evening’s programme is led by Odile Gertze, Gondwana’s ambassador. Each guest is captivated by her charm as she narrates the evening.

Everyone finds common ground in a single goal, captured best by the reggae theme of ‘One Love’.

In a world full of turmoil and uncertainty, where war and division harm everyone, the call to lead with love feels especially important. ‘One Love’ isn’t simply a song; it is a call for people to come together.

Gondwana’s speech is centred around the importance of growing and maintaining Brand Namibia, emphasising how a unified identity helps the tourism industry and the economy by providing jobs, elevating national pride, and instilling patriotism among citizens.

The audience is updated on Gondwana’s latest developments like the opening of The Reverie in the Kalahari and The Ekipa in the north. These developments indicate that the group remains dedicated to sustainable tourism by increasing the number of lodges and retrofitting existing ones to be more environmentally friendly.

Expressing her gratitude towards the operators, sales manager Anthea Cloete describes the effort of Namibia’s travel operators as hard working.

“You are the heartbeat of our industry,” she says.

“Your passion, strength and hard work help showcase the numerous landscapes and rich cultures our country offers to the globe.”

She proceeds to award medals to those who achieved the highest bookings, guest satisfaction and partnership tenures.

As an added form of entertainment, prizes are awarded to the best dressed male and female wearing reggae inspired clothing. Contestants are also put to the test regarding Gondwana and Namibian tourism with a quiz.

The Undivided Band’s lively rendition of reggae oldies and local fusion is a highlight of the evening. The dance floor fills up immediately as people dance and sing along under the stars, showing what ‘One Love’ is all about.
