Onandjokwe doctor arrested in Sanlam fraud case

A doctor (48) was arrested at the Muhembo border post in the Kavango East region on Saturday in connection with a fraud case.

Oshana police commissioner Naftal Sakaria confirmed the arrest on Sunday.

He said the accused, who is from Malawi, was expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

According to police sources, the doctor, who is based at Onandjokwe State Hospital, is linked to a N$1.9 million Sanlam fraud case.

Police chief inspector Antonious Gabriel told the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court in January that N$1.2 million was claimed by an individual linked to a former police officer-turned-criminal gang leader, Abner Matheus.

An Oshana police source says the doctor was arrested while on his way to attend a party in Botswana.

False documents from various doctors in the north were allegedly used to steal money from the insurance company.
