On-site survey at Nujoma Stadium

WINDHOEK Consulting Engineers (WCE) last week conducted an on-site survey at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Katutura as part of its mandate to see if the construction of the stadium was responsible for flooding in the Dolam section in January.

Gert Cloete, a hydraulic engineer at WCE, told The Namibian on Monday that the on-site survey was done on Thursday. The WCE was approached by the Legal Assistance Centre (LAC) to help them determine why about 14 homes at Dolam were flooded.Cloete could not say when they would finish with the assessment.Owners of the flooded homes claim the construction of the stadium was responsible for the flood.Cloete said the City had agreed to make available the storm-water design plan for the stadium to them. The LAC, which is giving legal advice to the Dolam flood victims, approached WCE after the City refused to give them its engineers and assessors report. The affected families are still living at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.Last month, the City stopped providing the families free meals and free electricity. The City is angry that the people do not want to return to their homes, which were cleaned and disinfected by the municipality after the flood.Residents say they will only go back if the City does something to prevent further floods.
