governor Erginus Endjala says the region has recorded 407 new cases of malaria.
Speaking at the state of the region address at Outapi on Wednesday, Endjala says the cases were reported at Oshikuku and Outapi district hospitals.
“Forty-seven percent of the cases were local transmissions, mainly due to a lack of insecticide, while 53% were transmissions from our neighbouring country, Angola.’’
Additionally, the governor says crime statistics in the region have also increased from 1 801 cases last year to 1 895 this year.
Adding that police cells in the regions are overcrowded, Endjala also says rape cases in the Omusati region are on the rise.
“Our women and children are not safe. Therefore, I call upon all our traditional authorities to work together and make sure our region is safe. Therefore, let’s rededicate ourselves to make sure the rape cases have dropped significantly,” says Endjala.
