Omusati police commander commissioner Ismael Basson has instructed officers deployed at various polling stations not to leave ballot boxes unattended.
He was addressing officers during a parade at Outapi on Tuesday morning.
“If necessary, you must protect the boxes with your lives. You must keep your eyes on the boxes 24 hours a day,” Basson said.
He cautioned police officers against taking the boxes home.
“If you leave the polling station with the boxes, you will be arrested by commissioner Basson immediately,” he warned.
He said even in the event of a breakdown of a vehicle transporting election officials, the boxes must remain in sight.
