The Omusati region have vacated their position as champions of the Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup after they lost 4-3 on penalties in their quarterfinal tie against the Kunene region.

The tie ended a goal apiece in normal time with Brudihno Kandirikira of Kunene opening the scoring in the 12th minute.

Omusati, however, equalised after the break when Peter Benyamen towered over the Kunene defenders to head the ball into the net.

During the penalty shootout, Kunene’s Venatjo Kasaona and Omusati’s Letho Ithete failed to convert their spot kicks.

The game ended with Kunene going through to the semi-finals.

//Kharas booked their place in the semifinals with a comfortable 2-0 win against Otjozondjupa.

Both their goals came in the first half with Damean Engelbrecht  heading in from a corner on 11 minutes, while Vince Roman made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after a handball in the box.

Otjozondjupa came back more determined after the break, creating several chances of their own but they could not capitalise. Chupa Singeve had a free kick saved and //Kharas keeper Lumando Basson brought of a point-blank save from Serghino Boois, who also hit the back of the net in the dying minutes, but his shot was disallowed for offside.

//Kharas will now meet Kunene in the semifinals later on Sunday.
