Ome Dessie and Costa Dedicate ‘Piri Gu Re’ to Livestock Herders

Ome Dessie and Costa are determined to make music for the farmers in the Omararu area with their new album ‘Piri Gu Re’, a mixture of Afro pop, house, traditional, contemporary jazz, traditional music and Ma/gaisa music.

“We did the production at Welwitchia Studios at Omaruru,” Ome Dessie said. “It was an album that we did in three to four months’ time and it’s our very first album.”

The plan was to motivate listeners and create awareness on the issues happening on the farm. “We still look after goats at the farm. Employment is scarce in Namibia and it has forced us to become goat herders. We do not want to resort to crime, which is why we do that and music,” Ome Dessie said.

The album starts off with ‘!Gangu Ma /gaisa’, a Damara punch track that definitely packs a punch.

There’s no doubt that you will be dancing by the time this song is over, especially if this is one of the genres that you treasure the most. That’s the beauty of local music – you won’t find it anywhere else but in Namibia. We wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up on the radio stations.

‘Piri Gu Re’, the title track, is a catchy single that locals will appreciate. It’s well-mastered and offers that feel-good aura that makes you want to grab someone and start dancing. ‘Onderhoud’ is also a track that deserves recognition.

Bringing on T-Bozz and Staika for assistance on the track ‘Mapa Sa’, the aim was to celebrate local artists and bring their fellow countrymen into the music industry.

Those from Omaruru will appreciate the song dedicated to the town which features E.K.Z, Extrazz, Skoko and Marvin. Other artists you can also expect on the album include Manikie Zulu.

“Our videos are already getting airplay on local television stations and we are happy about it,” Costa said.

Whether you are from the North, south, east or west, it’s a family-friendly album that anyone can enjoy.
