Omaheke sail through to semis

Hosts Omaheke are through to the knockout stages of the Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup, following a great display in their two group matches on Friday.

The cattle country boys opened their campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over //Kharas.

Spurred on by the crowd, the hosts continued their good run by holding on to a solitary goal lead against an upbeat Erongo in the last match of the day, which ended 1-0 in Omaheke’s favour.

The wins placed Omaheke at the top of group D with six points, with Erongo and //Kharas following in second and third place, respectively.

Both teams are yet to register a win as both went down to the group leader.

The Omusati region has also managed to cruise through to the semi-finals by collecting maximum points from their two encounters on Friday.

They beat Otjozondupa 1-0 in their first game of the tournament, and went on to up the tally to a 2-0 win against Ohangwena in their last encounter of the day.

As such, they lead the group with six points, while Otjozondjupa and Ohangwena are yet to register a single point from their matches in the tournament so far, and will seek redemption in their remaining fixtures.

The remaining groups A and B were still to be decided.
