Omaheke governor to tie knot next month

Omaheke governor Pijoo Nganate is getting married to former Okahandja local authority councillor Helmi Maruru next month.

According to their wedding invitation card, seen by The Namibian, the couple will tie the knot at Okatana Roman Catholic Church near Oshakati on 11 February.

Contacted for comment, Maruru indicated that she regarded the planned wedding as a private matter, not meant to receive uninvited media attention.

Nganate did not answer numerous calls to his mobile phone.

Maruru is among former Okahandja Town Council members who were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday this week.

She and fellow former Swapo councillors Hileni Iita and Gideon Uwu-Khaeb were granted bail of N$10 000 each when they appeared in the Okahandja Magistrate’s court.

Anti-Corruption Commission spokesperson Josefina Nghituwamata told The Namibian the three former town councillors face charges of corruptly using an office for personal gratification.
