Okahandja United urged to avoid relegation slip

Local football analyst Hector Mawango has cautioned the Okahandja United FC technical team to up both its tactical and technical approach in their remaining Namibia Premier Football League (NFPL) matches, to avoid sliding deep into the relegation zone.

Okahandja United’s technical team comprises seasoned individuals with the technical know-how to rescue the team before it sinks deeper to no point of return.

At the helm of the technical team is head coach Richard Gariseb, with experienced Woody Jacobs as technical director, and other former footballers tasked with steering the ship away from the relegation cluster.

Though Okahandja United have a game in hand, they sit with 13 points in 14th place on the NPFL log standing.

They have had some positive results when playing on home soil, but away games have been tough to yield the desired results.

This past weekend, Okahandja United visited both Eleven Arrows and Ven Blue Waters, resulting in a disappointing ending as the Garden Town could not bag a single victory.

However, Okahandja will host Eleven Arrows at Nau-Aib Stadium tomorrow and Ven Blue Waters at the same venue on Sunday.

In a recent interview with Desert FM, Mawango said Okahandja United’s inconsistent form has raised eyebrows.

“Their home form is good but travelling away has been a huge challenge to come back with the needed points,” he said. “Things are not going well when they travel, which in itself is a huge concern.

He added that a few fans at Okahandja share the same sentiments about the team’s poor performance at away games.

“Like the poor run in Walvis Bay the past weekend. The players’ morale is not looking good,” Mawango stressed.

He said it is up to the technical team to push the players forward and improve their form to play at the desired level.

“A few seasons ago they ended fourth. They need that magic to get up and move up the ladder. They have to rectify whatever it is that is not working,” Mawango said.

Otjiwarongo-based Life Fighters linger above the relegation zone as they get ready to host FC Ongos and Unam FC at Mokati Stadium.

Both Ongos and Unam have so far lost one game only. It will be a titanic battle for Life Fighters to handle especially with their current poor run.

Tigers SC (15th on the log) are another struggling side, while Julinho Athletic’s lackluster performance has put them squarely at the bottom of the log.

Julinho will visit Eshoke Chula Chula at Oshakati and KK Palace at the town’s Independence Stadium on Sunday.

Tigers SC will host Khomas Nampol FC and take on defending champions African Stars SC at Independence Stadium at 16h00 on Sunday.
