Okahandja protests poor service delivery and ‘missing’ Oshetu funds

Residents of Okahandja on Thursday demonstrated against poor service delivery at the town’s informal settlements, demanding accountability for ‘missing’ funds and municipal debt practices.

They gathered in front of the Okahandja municipality, where they handed over a petition to Otjozondjupa governor John //Khmuseb.

In the petition, the residents raise concerns over the town’s informal settlements. They say a contribution of N$165 has been made by each resident at Oshetu to support service delivery in the area, yet no update has been provided on how these funds have been managed.

They says there has been minimal development and little to no service delivery at Okahandja’s informal settlements.

Furthermore, the residents are calling for the cancellation of all pensioners’ debts.

They also demand the termination of RedForce Debt Management agency’s contract, advocating instead for debt collection to be handled by the municipality’s internal debt management department.

//Khmuseb received the petition and assured the residents that he would forward it to the relevant authorities.

“I really want an amicable and permanent solution for Okahandja’s crises,” he said.

It was agreed that a follow-up meeting will take place on 17 August at Rakatuka Soccer Field at Oshetu No1.
