The Ohlthaver & List group has announced the closure of its Model shop at Grootfontein.
Store manager Graeme Mouton in a letter to employees, dated 18 August, says the closure is due to the store’s recent change in ownership.
“Our lease agreement with the mall ended, and the new landlord has given us notice to vacate the premises by 31 January 2026,” the manager says in the letter.
According to the letter, the management team will engage with the affected employees to determine the way forward.
The store’s management will explore all alternatives before considering separation, the letter says.
This includes accommodating the affected employees at other Model stores, as well as inviting expressions of interest in voluntary separation or early retirement for those who qualify.
“Only once all these alternatives have been fully explored, and if necessary, a compulsory seperation process may follow,” Mouton says.
In compliance with the Labour Act, the Office of the Labour Commissioner and the employees’ union will be formally notified of the store’s closure.
“While this decision was driven by external factors, we remain accountable for ensuring every employee is treated with fairness, dignity and respect,” Mouton says.
