Ohangwena councillor claims homosexuality is GBV

Erickson Ndawanifwa

Ohangwena Regional Council chairperson Erickson Ndawanifwa says homosexuality should also be regarded as a form of gender-based violence.

Ndawanifwa made this remark during a meeting with the parliamentary standing committee on gender equality, social development and family affairs at Eenhana on Wednesday.

“There is now a very sensitive issue in the country; many women and men are not happy when you are talking about homosexuality and it’s true, the Western countries are forcing African countries to accept homosexuality,” Ndawanifwa said.

“It is very bad, that’s not our culture, we consider the human right they are talking about but this is not part of African culture,” he said.

“How many women and men are going to suffer if the law allows homosexuality because you say a man will marry a man and a woman marry a woman. Is that not gender-based violence?Homosexuality is a violation of human dignity,” he remarked.
