Ocean Young, Eswatini win at Deaf Sport Games

Walvis Bay-based Ocean Young Deaf Football Club (FC) from the Erongo region and the Eswatini Deaf Netball Team were on Sunday afternoon crowned champions of the 2025 National Deaf Sport Games.

The games started on Friday morning at Rietfontein Sport Stadium in the Otjozondjupa region.

Both the Ocean Young FC and the Eswatini netball teams were awarded trophies and gold medals after they defeated their opponents in the finals on Sunday afternoon.

Ocean Young won with a single goal against Kopola Deaf FC from Zambia, while Eswatini defeated the Namibian netball team by 49 points to 24.

Third place in the football category was taken by Oshana Young Deaf FC from Oshakati.

The president of the Namibian Deaf Sport Federation (NDSF), Abner Sheya, together with his deputy, Peter Uushona, handed the trophies and medals over to the teams.

Football’s best player of the games was Happy Muyunda from Zambian Deaf FC, while Vuyolwethu Sithole of Eswatini Deaf got the trophy in the netball category.

Several other football and netball players, as well as athletes in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m were also selected at the games to represent Namibia to the upcoming 2025 Deaflympics to be held in Tokyo, Japan, in November.

The 2025 Summer Deaflympics is an international multi-sport event for deaf athletes held every four years.
