NYC rejects claims about former acting director’s resignation

The National Youth Council of Namibia (NYC) has rejected claims published by Windhoek Observer regarding the resignation of former acting director Mzingisi Gqwede, describing them as false and misleading.

In a media statement issued on Friday, the council says the article published on 5 March contains inaccurate information and misrepresents internal administrative matters.

The statement, issued by the council’s corporate communications and marketing department, says the NYC was compelled to clarify several allegations contained in the report.

According to the NYC, claims that its executive chairperson, Patience Masua, made belittling statements towards Gqwede are unfounded.

“All engagements were conducted through formal email correspondence copied to relevant colleagues, and there is no record of any unprofessional remarks,” the council says.

The NYC has also addressed claims regarding disputes over sitting fees for the fourth and fifth extraordinary board meetings.

The council says financial submissions and records for the fifth board meeting had not yet been presented, meaning sitting fees for that meeting were never discussed or deliberated upon before or after the resignation of the acting director.

The council further dismisses allegations of excessive travel expenditure relating to a board member based in Rundu.

The NYC says the board member received a daily subsistence allowance strictly in line with established policies and procedures.

“The figures published by the newspaper are highly inaccurate and exaggerated,” the statement says.
