NWR’s Mile 72 camp robbed

NAMIBIA Wildlife Resorts’ Mile 72 camp near Henties Bay has been robbed.

The Manager, Charmaine Leaf, said about seven people were involved in the hold-up – all hooded and several armed with pistols. She said the robbers first broke into the camp’s shop in an attempt to carry out the large safe. They failed, and then went over to the staff house to wake the cashier, Hans Gomeb, to force him to give them the key to the safe. His wife and child were also in the house. As soon as Gomeb opened the door, the men stormed in, demanding the key. After Gomeb handed it over, the suspects tied him and his wife up.The suspects unlocked the safe and took the N$941 that was in it.According to Leaf, the men went back to the house to demand that Gomeb “hand over the rest of the money”.They reportedly “could not believe that the N$900 plus was all that was in the safe”.Gomeb managed to convince them that they had all the money there was. However, this did not stop the suspects from stealing merchandise in the shop.According to Police estimates, the total value of the stolen items and cash was just over N$12 000.Leaf said the Gomeb family were taken to Henties Bay’s clinic, and although the wife suffered from shock, the family was unhurt. No one has been arrested yet.She said the robbers first broke into the camp’s shop in an attempt to carry out the large safe. No one has been arrested yet.
