NWR addresses concerns of selling resorts, lodges

Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) released a statement on 25 February 2025, issued by NWR spokesperson Nelson Ashipala, to address concerns regarding its resorts

Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) has taken note of recent social media claims suggesting that the company is selling or transferring ownership of 14 resorts and lodges. We would like to state that these allegations are unfounded and misleading.

NWR remains a government-owned entity, and no plans exist to sell or privatise its properties. Our priority is to ensure the long-term sustainability of our resorts while continuing to provide quality tourism experiences for local and international visitors.

As part of this commitment, NWR recently issued a request for proposals (RFP) for comprehensive audit and strategic services to assess the performance of some of our facilities. This process is intended to identify opportunities for operational improvements and enhanced service delivery. It is a standard practice in responsible business management and should not be misinterpreted as a move toward privatisation. The document at hand states that the consultant can advise on a range of options, including entering into a public private partnership, outsourcing or any other option. However, nowhere does it state that NWR will sell off these properties, apparently to Europeans.

We encourage the public and stakeholders to refer to official NWR communication channels for accurate information. Speculation and misinformation creates unnecessary uncertainty among our valued employees and the broader tourism sector.
