Nust unveils Namibia’s first Bloomberg Finance Lab

The Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) has launched Namibia’s first Bloomberg Finance Lab aimed at enhancing financial literacy, professional training, and investment skills development across Namibia.

This was confirmed by a press statement on Monday.

The launch was in collaboration with the Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) and the Namibia Investment and Finance Academy (Nifa).

The lab is equipped with 12 Bloomberg terminals and positions Nust alongside more than 1 000 academic institutions worldwide that integrate this technology into their curriculum.

“The Bloomberg terminal provides real-time and historical data, analytics, market-moving news, and electronic trading tools, enabling users to make informed investment decisions and connect securely with a global professional network,” the statement reads.

Speaking at the launch, Nust vice chancellor Erold Naomab said Nust is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of financial professionals.

He said the collaboration with Bloomberg, Nifa and MTC allows the university to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world financial applications, enhancing students’
career prospects and boosting Namibia’s global competitiveness.

MTC managing director Licky Erastus says the organisation believes in leveraging technology to drive sustainable growth.

“The Bloomberg Finance Lab exemplifies our commitment to innovation and collaboration to position the country at the forefront of digital transformation in finance,” Erastus says.

According to the statement, the Bloomberg Finance Lab is a cornerstone of the partners’ shared commitment to Namibia’s Vision 2030 and other national strategies emphasising human capital development, high-quality job creation, and economic growth through innovation.

Nifa founder and chief executive Arinze Okafor says by making professional training and certifications more accessible, they can ensure that the workforce and industry professionals acquire the global competencies to excel in today’s fast-paced markets.

“Our partnership with Nust and MTC underscores our commitment to elevating financial education in the country. The Bloomberg Finance Lab serves as a gateway for Namibians to access advanced financial tools and globally recognised certifications – empowering them to compete and succeed on the international stage,” Okafor says.
