Nurses unite for gala dinner to tackle mental health

A group of young nurses are coming together to host a nurses gala dinner, a black-and-white-themed evening dedicated to honouring the healthcare heroes while bringing mental health into the spotlight.

The event scheduled for 30 August was inspired by the mental load nursing puts on frontline staff.

“It’s about recognising the truth that nurses are human beings too. They come with emotional trauma and stress, but they never receive any places where they can talk about it or receive time off,” says Immanuel Ndumba, a member of the managing committee.

From burnout and compassion fatigue to emotional trauma, the organisers hope to start a national conversation about nurse wellness.

Money raised during the dinner will go towards a nurses mental health awareness campaign.

Guests are promised an evening of glamour, including a red-carpet arrival and cocktails, followed by a three-course meal.

“Entertainment matters. We wish to motivate, encourage and remind every nurse in the room of their worth and their value,” says Mathew Shimbonde, another member of the managing committee.

“This is where nurses can laugh, dance and just be themselves.”

There will also be networking lounges where nurses can sit down with mentors, agencies and future sponsors.

The organisers have also invited embassies, health institutions and international partners for future prospects of development and cooperation.

“You give so much to the world. Now it’s your time to be celebrated,” Ndumba says.

“Come dressed up, come as you are, but most importantly, come to be reminded that you matter.”

The Nurses Gala Dinner 2025 promises to be a night of elegance, empowerment and emotional healing.
