President Nangolo Mbumba has described founding president Sam Nujoma as a diamond that illuminated Etunda village.
Etunda is Nujoma’s homestead in northern Namibia.
Mbumba, who was speaking at the founding president’s funeral on Saturday, delivered the last message of tribute before the liberation struggle icon was laid to rest.
“We salute you, diamond of Etunda village, for a life well lived, in service of the republic of Namibia,” he said.
The president said those who had the privilege of being under Nujoma’s command during the struggle fondly recall how, as a leader, he
always displayed a confident demeanor in front of others.
“We recall how, during the central committee meetings in the remote areas of Angola, you would say, ‘next time we will have this meeting at the outskirts of Windhoek’,” Mbumba said.
