Nujoma lived ‘a life dedicated to the service of the people’

The City of Windhoek on 9 February 2025 delivered a message of condolence on the death of the founding president of Namibia, Sam Nujoma.

It is with deep sorrow that the City of Windhoek joins the nation in mourning the passing of the founding president of the Republic of Namibia and founding father of the

Namibian nation, his excellency, Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma.

His excellency Nujoma was not only a revered statesman but also a visionary leader whose unwavering dedication to the liberation and development of Namibia laid the foundation for the democratic and prosperous nation we continue to build today. 

His enduring legacy is deeply embedded in the history of our country, and his leadership, courage, and commitment to the ideals of unity and progress remain an inspiration to all.

As the City of Windhoek, we cherish and are honoured by the immense contribution he made to the development of our capital city and Namibia. His vision for national development and tireless efforts to uplift the lives of all Namibians will forever be remembered.

On behalf of the City of Windhoek, its leadership, employees, and the entire residence, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Nujoma and Kondombolo families, the Namibian government, and all Namibians. May we find strength and unity in this time of grief as we celebrate a life dedicated to the service of the people.

May the soul of his excellency, Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma rest in eternal peace.
