Utoni Nujoma’s claim that people in the north are hardworking, and labelling others as lazy is not only false, but also dangerous and divisive.
As a Swapo member, I’m utterly embarrassed by his inconsiderate remarks, as it comes from a man who is a government minister and the son of the founding president.
In FirstWorld countries, such bigoted remarks are sufficient for one to be expelled or compelled to resign from the party. However, this is Swapo, where even the president himself has made inconsiderate remarks.
In 2019, president Hage Geingob said he has googled and found that the Kavango people did not vote for Swapo in 1989, therefore they should not demand development.
The question is: Will Swapo’s top leadership call on Nujoma to tender a public apology or face expulsion as they did with Bernadus Swartbooi and the late Kazenambo?
Or will they show cowardice and selective reprimand? The unruliness and inconsiderate remarks we are witnessing now are to be blamed on poor leadership.
If the president was a strict leader, we wouldn’t have the chaos we are witnessing today.
This is exactly how people act when there is an absence of leadership in an organisation or country.
