Nujoma declares war on ‘enemies of the State’

SWAPO President Sam Nujoma yesterday went into full attack mode against “enemies of the State who threaten national security” .

Addressing a press conference in Windhoek, Nujoma focused his offensive on the writer of anonymous letters, circulated via e-mail, under the pseudonym of ‘Ananias Nghifitikeko from Eenhana’. Nujoma said these distributors and writers “must be nipped in the bud”.For the first time in almost two years, Nujoma came out strongly against the letters of Nghifitikeko.”The writers and distributors of hate letters have therefore become a national security threat which must be nipped in the bud,” Nujoma said when he addressed the media at the party’s head office in Katutura. He sat at the head table with Swapo Vice President and Namibia’s leader Hifikepunye Pohamba, Swapo Secretary General Ngarikutuke Tjiriange, and Speaker of the National Assembly Theo-Ben Gurirab .Others in the packed room included Lands Minister Jerry Ekandjo, Justice Minister Pendukeni Ithana, Information Minister Netumbo Ndaitwah, Finance Minister Saara Kuugongelwa, Foreign Affairs Minister Marco Hausiku, Education Minister Nangolo Mbumba and National Planning Commission Director General Helmut Angula – all members of the party’s 21-strong politburo.Nujoma said his faith and confidence in the party’s leaders continued and therefore the letters needed to be condemned. He said there was a danger that the “unpatriotic and dangerous intentions” of the writers, if not stopped, can spread to the rest of Namibian society. He said the politburo would leave no stone unturned in its search to find the writers and to have them brought to book.According to Nujoma and the politburo, Nghifitikeko and a certain Shakadila were deceptive elements who had infiltrated the party to work for the interests of “the enemy”.Nujoma argued that if Swapo was weakened, it could lead to instability, ethnic hostility and wars of secession.”I, therefore, call upon the entire Namibian nation to be alert, vigilant and remain united to trace and unmask the Nghifitikekos, Shakadilas and the likes who have the agenda to destroy peace and tranquillity in our country,” he said.In the past, the politburo had appointed a committee appointed to determine who the letter writers were and establish their motives.Yesterday, Tjiriange and Ndaitwah looked at each other when a question about progress on the investigation was put to Nujoma while the party leader hesitantly said: “the investigation continues”.The e-mails mostly target former Foreign Affairs Minister Hidipo Hamutenya and some senior officials in Government and the private sector, who they described as “agents of imperialists” but Nujoma said nobody in the top leadership, including him, was spared the attacks.Nujoma said these distributors and writers “must be nipped in the bud”.For the first time in almost two years, Nujoma came out strongly against the letters of Nghifitikeko.”The writers and distributors of hate letters have therefore become a national security threat which must be nipped in the bud,” Nujoma said when he addressed the media at the party’s head office in Katutura. He said the politburo would leave no stone unturned in its search to find the writers and to have them brought to book.According to Nujoma and the politburo, Nghifitikeko and a certain Shakadila were deceptive elements who had infiltrated the party to work for the interests of “the enemy”.Nujoma argued that if Swapo was weakened, it could lead to instability, ethnic hostility and wars of secession.”I, therefore, call upon the entire Namibian nation to be alert, vigilant and remain united to trace and unmask the Nghifitikekos, Shakadilas and the likes who have the agenda to destroy peace and tranquillity in our country,” he said.In the past, the politburo had appointed a committee appointed to determine who the letter writers were and establish their motives.Yesterday, Tjiriange and Ndaitwah looked at each other when a question about progress on the investigation was put to Nujoma while the party leader hesitantly said: “the investigation continues”.The e-mails mostly target former Foreign Affairs Minister Hidipo Hamutenya and some senior officials in Government and the private sector, who they described as “agents of imperialists” but Nujoma said nobody in the top leadership, including him, was spared the attacks.
