Former People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (Plan) Combatants Association on founding president Sam Nujoma’s death, 8 February, 2025 , issued by Charles Mubita
THE Former Plan Combatants Association (FPCA) received with profound sadness and deep grief the sad news of the passing on of our first and only founding president Sam ‘Shafishuna’ Nujoma on 8 February 2025.
An accomplished revolutionary, a revered disciplined freedom fighter, inspirational mentor, comforter to many Namibians, founding president of the Republic of Namibia, and father of the Namibian nation, has taken his last breath.
It is without doubt that the former combatants of the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia, Plan, the Swapo Party and people of Namibia have lost a selfless humble leader, a revolutionary icon and a visionary role model.
Nujoma was steeled in the crucible of the Namibian liberation struggle and dedicated his life throughout the liberation struggle and after independence to serving Namibia and her people.
During the darkest hours of our struggle for independence, Nujoma provided our people with visionary leadership; safe sanctuary for exiled Namibian refugees; hope, inspiration and impeccable leadership at the military, diplomatic and political fronts.
To many Namibians, he was more than just a man. He was a symbol and embodiment of the struggle for freedom, justice, equality, and dignity of the Namibian people.
His selfless sacrifice inspired freedom-loving Namibians to relentlessly fight for justice, freedom and human progress.
He dared, where others feared. He never wavered, where others capitulated.
We remember him, not only for the immense sacrifices he made during the struggle for independence, but also for his tremendous contribution to the establishment of the Namibian nation. Nujoma laid a firm foundation upon which unity, peace and prosperity should be built.
The FPCA wishes all former combatants; all peace-loving Namibians and indeed members, supporters and sympathisers of the Swapo Party renewed strength and good health to cope with this sad news.
The FPCA hereby expresses its profound sorrow and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved Nujoma family and the Namibian nation at large.
May his legacy be our heritage to cherish and treasure forever. May his vision of a united and prosperous Namibia be our guardian strength and inspiration.
Long live the revolutionary spirit of no surrender!
