Activist and author, Ndiilokelwa Nthengwe is taking her message internationally.
Nthengwe was invited to as an independent activist to attend the #SheDecides conference in Belgium this week.
“The trip is organized by an international organization #SheDecides in collaboration with the Belgium government to bring various leaders, activists and representatives from high-level movements & institutions into one space,” she said.
The activist added that the purpose is “to consolidate the progressive, intersectional and impactful work activists across the globe.
SheDecides was launched at the start of 2017 as a movement to support the rights of girls and women to decide freely and for themselves about their sexual lives.
Nthnegwe said the #ShutItAllDownNamibia movement has made global and regional impact.
“In Namibia, ativists continue to be categorized by gender politics, which later on is defined by what matters and what is an afterthought. To meet a head of State in Europe would indicate that, beyond the reductionist categorization of gender politics in Namibia; significant strides and efforts are still being made to advocate for the equal protections of diverse genders and sexes,”she said.
She also mentions that activism in Namibia is slowly beginning to take global shape and stance.
“Through this rigorous but bespoke invitation, I’m hoping to solidify and intensify the activism and advocacy work for vulnerable groups; from the insights, lessons and sessions, more innovative solutions and inputs can be developed to transfer consciousness into local discourse,” she said.
