NSHR denies getting US and UK funding

WINDHOEK – The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) has denied claims that it receives funding from Britain and the United States.

The NSHR has some times been accused of accepting dubious funding from countries that may have ulterior motives. Yesterday NSHR Executive Director Phil ya Nangoloh told reporters that the accusations were false and said his organisation had always been transparent about its donors. He made the remarks when accepting funding of N$1,6 million from the governments of Finland and The Netherlands.”We have not received funding from the United States or Britain yet.And we normally do not receive funds from states that are accused of human rights violations. Our position on the US-led invasion of Iraq has been very clear,” said Ya Nangoloh. He said Finland and The Netherlands are traditional partners of the NSHR whose co-operation with Namibia goes way back to before Independence. The NSHR’s mission is to secure recognition and observance of all human rights and fundamental freedoms, especially those enshrined in the Namibian Constitution.NampaYesterday NSHR Executive Director Phil ya Nangoloh told reporters that the accusations were false and said his organisation had always been transparent about its donors. The NSHR’s mission is to secure recognition and observance of all human rights and fundamental freedoms, especially those enshrined in the Namibian Constitution.Nampa
