NRU boss Conradie to sue Informante

NAMIBIA Rugby Union (NRU) President Dirk Conradie is planning to sue weekly newspaper Informante after the newspaper implicated him in dubious loans with the national rugby union.

According to the article that appeared yesterday, the NRU has allegedly been plagued by financial management, tax evasion and abuse of funds, with Conradie, being accused of of receiving N$175 740.13 as a loan repayment from the Union, while there was no proof on why and how he loaned the union this money. Reacting to the accusations on Thursday, Conradie informed Nampa that the article depicted him as a corrupt official, adding that the article is devoid of any truth.”This is a black and white issue.Ever since I got into the white domain I have been attacked,” said Conradie. The NRU’s financial statement for the year ending March 31, of which Nampa has a copy, showed that during the year under review, an amount of N$175 740 was advanced to the Union as a loan by the firm Conradie & Damaseb, in which Conradie is a partner. This loan amount is still outstanding at the year-end.Conradie said that all financial statements of the Union are duly audited, adding that the loan he advanced to the NRU had the blessing of the International Rugby Board (IRB).He said there are documents from the IRB which specifically deals with the money owed to him.The audited financial report for the year in question, by Grand Namibia Public Accounts and Auditors, was signed by Conradie and approved by the NRU executive committee. He described the whole fiasco as a witch-hunt by individuals that he knows personally.NampaReacting to the accusations on Thursday, Conradie informed Nampa that the article depicted him as a corrupt official, adding that the article is devoid of any truth.”This is a black and white issue.Ever since I got into the white domain I have been attacked,” said Conradie. He described the whole fiasco as a witch-hunt by individuals that he knows personally.Nampa
