THE Namibia Premier League’s transfer window period will officially open tomorrow.
The first round of league matches will resume on February 8 and are expected to be completed by February 15. After this the second round of the league will start on February 20.NFA spokesperson Cassius Moetie told The Namibian Sport yesterday that players who wish to move to other clubs during the window period, which closes on January 30, are not allowed to play for their new clubs during the first round.”The players will only turn out for their new teams during the second round which starts in mid-February,” he said.NPL League Administrator Tovey Hoebeb said the preliminary rounds for the NFA Cup will continue this weekend.The preliminary matches only last for 35 minutes each half with a five-minute break.One winner from each region will join the Premier League sides in the first round proper over the weekend of January 24 and 25.This coincides with the commencement of the African Nations Cup in Tunisia.The final of the NFA Cup will be played on April 3 at the newly-constructed Independence Stadium in Oshakati.Meanwhile, Young Chiefs beat Teenagers 5-3 in an NFA Cup preliminary match played at the Independence Stadium in Oshakati on Monday night.NFA Vice President John Muinjo, who attended the match, said it was well attended by over 800 spectators despite pouring rain.”The attendance was an indication that people in the North are keen on football despite the heavy rains, while they also appreciate their new facility,” he said.After this the second round of the league will start on February 20.
