Northern-based rising duo North Gang are making waves with their two new projects, an extended play (EP) titled ‘Sons of the North’, and their fast-growing fashion brand, KoNooli Fashions.
The brothers, Lineekela and Sixulifeni Hituuamata, say their are making a name for themselves through music, fashion, and a deep message of self-belief.
They say their journey has not been easy, but it has taught them to keep moving forward.
“Many people did not believe in us,” Lineekela says, adding that believing in themselves is what kept them going.
Sixulifeni says their band was born when Lineekela heard him singing gospel songs around the house, and encouraged him to pursue music.
“I used to sing every day without thinking much of it,” he says. “But when my brother pushed me to take music seriously, everything changed.”
‘Sons of the North’ carries their identity and the sound of home, the duo says, adding that the project focuses on self-identity, time, faith, and positivity.
The duo blends Namibian pop with a northern local sound.
Some of the songs enjoying airplay include ‘Time After Time’, a song about using time wisely.
Another track, ‘Cucumber’, highlights living healthy and moving towards a better future, while ‘Good Vibes’ is an upbeat tune featuring Taffy Blackstone and Desire Desire, that encourages choosing happiness.
The EP is produced by Lanka, an up-and-coming producer working with some of Namibia’s well-known artists.
The duo say they chose Lanka because of his fresh production style, which helps shape the strong sound of their music.
Along with music, the brothers are focusing on their clothing brand, KoNooli Fashions, which is rapidly finding its way onto the market and into young peoples’ wardrobes.
“KoNooli is more than clothes,” Lineekela says. “It is our identity and our way of showing where we come from.”
Their latest clothing pieces, moments in the studio, and new music are available on their Instagram page, northgang_na.
With their music and fashion projects growing together, North Gang say they are an incredible new voice rising through Namibia’s creative scene.
The brothers say they are ready to take their brand to the next level.
“We want our music and fashion to speak for young people like us,” Sixulifeni says, adding that this is just the beginning.
