FILM director Tim Huebschle says its too early to say if part two of #LANDoftheBRAVEfilm will be produced, as Covid-19 has ravaged many avenues of funding.
In an exclusive interview with unWrap.online Huebschle says fundraising is key when making a film.
“Without fundraising, we are not anywhere in the future to say, yes the second movie will be produced. The pandemic has also contributed hugely, so there are no predictions or a possibility of the second movie because of a lack of funding.
“We are in the early stages of considering a follow-up story set in the same world, but for now our focus remains on documentary web series content. Fictional content will have to wait a little until the global health crisis stabilises.
“It may be better not to raise the expectations of your readers until such time as we announce concrete plans,” he says.
Executive secretary of the Namibia Film Commission (NFC) Florence Haifene told unWrap.online that the NFC will be funding four shorts, a documentary and a feature film, from its call out last year.
“We are busy with the process and will inform filmmakers who made it to the script development phase in April.
“We have funded #LANDoftheBRAVEfilm to the tune of N$1,5 million and cannot assist with part two at this stage as we have to provide the same assistance to other filmmakers with equally authentic Namibian stories.
“As you may be aware our fund is only N$3 million,” Haifene says.
#LANDoftheBRAVEfilm is a Namibian film and transmedia project, launched on social media in 2014, which premiered on the Namibian cinema circuit in October 2019.
The film traces the journey of the tough female cop, Meisie Willemse, who hides a dodgy past which haunts her as she takes on one of the biggest cases of her career.
A serial killer is on the loose and as Willemse gets closer to catching him or her, a ruthless reporter exposes the deep, dark secrets from her past which threaten to destroy the investigation and ultimately her life.
