Ngurare applauds Zambezi’s Mavuluma Secondary School for shunning corruption

Prime minister Elijah Ngurare has applauded Zambezi pupils’ bravery for speaking out against corruption and other national issues.

Mavuluma Secondary School pupils, during a poem they recited at the 35th Heroes Day commemoration at Katima Mulilo on Tuesday, said corruption is holding the country back.

They said there are enough resources for everyone, yet the majority of the nation does not benefit from them.

The pupils called on leaders to lead with integrity, saying there is a need for development with regard to infrastructure, better education, and better services.

They shared their concerns that Katima Mulilo District Hospital has still not been upgraded to an intermediate hospital.

Patients are therefore still transferred to Rundu and Windhoek, which results in some of them dying due to exhaustion and not getting help on time.

Ngurare in a social media post on Wednesday said the government has heard the pupils’ call and appreciates them for it.

He also applauded them for their “militant spirit”.

“They have expressed hope in president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to turn the tide in addressing the socio-economic challenges of their generation. Their appeal to address the referral of patients to other regions challenge was also clear.

“The government has already started working on it. During my visit to the hospital at the beginning of August, we established what needs to be done. Hence, we are working on it,” he said.

Ngurare said the pupils’ wishes are all about what it means to be independent.
