Nghitumbwa, Looser win top sport awards

Fillipus ‘Energy’ Nghitumbwa and Vera Looser won Namibia’s top sport awards at the Namibia Annual Sport Awards in Ongwediva on Saturday night. 

Boxer Nghitumbwa won the sportsman of the year award, while Looser won the sportswoman of the year award. Looser also won ther shining star in the diaspora award, while para-triathlete Jerome Rooi won the sport star of the year award. 

The winners of the various categories are as follows:

Sportsman of the year: Fillipus Energy Nghitumbwa

Sportswoman of the year: Vera Looser 

Junior sportsman of the year: Burton Wheakley

Junior sportswoman of the year: Ashley Martins

Sportstar of the year: Jeromius Rooi 

Peoples choice sportstar of the year: Emilia Ekandjo 

Sportsman of the year with disability: Ananias Shikongo 

Sportswoman of the year with disability: Johanna Benson 

Wall of fame: Elizabeth Mongudhi, Luketz Swartbooi, Bernd Kebbel 

Lifetime achievement award: Polly Negongo, Rita Williams, Isak Elishi, Matheus Ndeshitila. 

Coach of the year: Naomi Schmidt 

Shining star in the diaspora: Vera Looser 

Community inspiration award: Special Olympics Namibia 

Development programme of the year: Special Olympics Namibia 

Sport team of the year: Namibia Aquatic Sport Federation 

Federation of the year: Cricket Namibia 

Junior Sportsman of the year with disability: Quinton Gaeb 

Junior Sportswoman of the year with disability: Keila de Oliveira 

Referee of the year: Antsino Twanyanyukwa 

Sport journalist digital: Brian Munango 

Sport journalist of the year print: Limba Mupetami 

Sport journalist of the year broadcasting: Terence Mukasa 

NSC Chairperson’s Award: Johan Muller (Cricket Namibia)
