NFA to invite 2010 AFCON nations

WINDHOEK – The Namibia Football Association (NFA) will invite top countries that qualify for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Angola to make use of Namibia’s sports facilities, and engage Namibia in international friendly matches.

NFA chief executive officer Barry Rukoro said they are in consultation with their African counterparts on this, but was quick to note that all will be finalised once its officially known which countries will take part in the 2010 AFCON finals.’Since Namibia failed to qualify for the continental event, the NFA wishes to invite top countries to play here and give the Namibians an experience they will never forget,’ enthused Rukoro.Qualification for the AFCON finals ends on September 6.By August 12, the NFA will thus know which countries are cleared for the 2010 AFCON finals. Meanwhile, the local organising committee (LOC) of the Angola 2010 AFCON has launched their publicity and marketing campaign for the tournament. According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) website on Wednesday, the campaign was launched by Angolan premier António Paulo Kassoma, and is set to enhance promotional activities towards the January 10-31 2010 tournament.The three-week tournament, the first of its kind to be hosted by the southern African country, will take place in four cities, being Luanda, Cabinda, Benguela and Lubango.The draw for the tournament has been fixed for November 20 in Luanda.This is the first time that Angola is hosting the biennial championship since its inception in 1957. – Nampa
