NFA to host Fifa seminar on women’s football

WINDHOEK – Namibia’s second place in the 2006 Confederation of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup for Women earlier this year was instrumental in earning the country the right to host the Fifa Women’s Football Seminar starting tomorrow.

The three-day Fifa Women’s Soccer Seminar for Southern and East Africa will take place at Soccer House in Katutura with participants from 14 countries expected to attend. Namibia Football Association (NFA) co-ordinator of women’s football Jackey Gertze told Nampa that another reason why Namibia was chosen to host the meeting is that the International Federation of Football Associations (Fifa) was very impressed with the way that Namibia has implemented the Fifa development programme for women.Eight Fifa delegates are expected to attend, including its head of development management, Pascal Torres, and Fifa’s development officer in charge of Southern Africa, Ashford Mamelodi. The countries that will send delegates are Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.Namibia will be represented by national women’s coach Jacqui Shipanga, national team manager Julien Garises, NFA secretary-general Alpheus Gaweseb and NFA technical director Seth Boois. The seminar will discuss the development of women’s football, the status of women’s football in CAF and Cosafa, how to run competitions and clubs as well as technical development and education.Communication, marketing and promotion will also form part of the discussions.A football match between 2005 Khomas League winners Okahandja Beauties and runners-up Queens from Rehoboth is part of the programme.NampaNamibia Football Association (NFA) co-ordinator of women’s football Jackey Gertze told Nampa that another reason why Namibia was chosen to host the meeting is that the International Federation of Football Associations (Fifa) was very impressed with the way that Namibia has implemented the Fifa development programme for women.Eight Fifa delegates are expected to attend, including its head of development management, Pascal Torres, and Fifa’s development officer in charge of Southern Africa, Ashford Mamelodi. The countries that will send delegates are Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.Namibia will be represented by national women’s coach Jacqui Shipanga, national team manager Julien Garises, NFA secretary-general Alpheus Gaweseb and NFA technical director Seth Boois. The seminar will discuss the development of women’s football, the status of women’s football in CAF and Cosafa, how to run competitions and clubs as well as technical development and education.Communication, marketing and promotion will also form part of the discussions.A football match between 2005 Khomas League winners Okahandja Beauties and runners-up Queens from Rehoboth is part of the programme.Nampa
