Ashipala-Musavyi lobbies for Nainda as Interpol head
SELMA Ashipala-Musavyi is meeting with heads of diplomatic missions and urging their countries to support deputy inspector general Anne-Marie Nainda’s bid to become Interpol president. She argues that Nainda is the strongest candidate and says Namibia needs support beyond the Southern African Development Community (SADC) endorsement already secured. Nainda is competing for the top post at Interpol against four other candidates, with elections set for 24-27 November in Marrakech, Morocco.
Last month, she was endorsed by SADC and the government as the region’s candidate for the presidency of Interpol.
Oshikoto police launche operation ‘Safer Nambia’
The Namibian Police in the Oshikoto region on Friday launched its festive season road safety campaign and crime prevention operation, code-named ‘Safer Namibia’. The campaign, which commenced on 15 November, will run until January next year. Oshikoto regional police commander commissioner Nangula Iifo said the main objective of the operation is to enhance police visibility through roadblocks, foot and mobile patrols, and hotspot interventions, and to enforce strict traffic regulations on drunk driving, overloading, unroadworthy vehicles, and reckless or negligent driving. “The campaign also includes crime prevention and intelligence led operations targeting criminal syndicates, repeat offenders and cross border crimes,” she said.
Nkurenkuru community receives 100 seedlings as part of fruit tree campaign
COMMUNITY members in the Nkurenkuru constituency of the Kavango West region on Thursday received
100 fruit tree seedlings from governor Verna Sinimbo as part of an initiative aimed at advancing food security and environmental sustainability. The seedlings were distributed as part of the ‘Tapeka, Lima, Tulye’ (Plant, Grow, Harvest) fruit tree campaign, which runs from 11 to 23 November and covers all eight constituencies of Kavango West. Beyond promoting agricultural resilience, the campaign also seeks to strengthen the region’s creative economy through talent identification and database registration of practitioners.
“This campaign was born from the simple but powerful belief that our region has everything it needs to rise – the land, the talent and the people,” Sinimbo said.
