THE newly elected councillor for Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency, Maxie Minnaar, was sworn-in as the new political office bearer of the //Kharas Regional Council at the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court this morning.
Principal magistrate Uchen Konjore presided over the swearing-in ceremony.
Minnaar, who represented the Landless People’s Movement, won the by-election for Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency held on Wednesday. The position fell vacant following the resignation of former Swapo Party regional constituency councillor Hilma Nicanor ahead of last year’s national election to gamble for a parliamentary seat.
In her acceptance speech, the new political office-bearer said she accepts with a “sense of sincere gratitude and greatest humility” the trust and confidence people have shown in voting for her in the by-election.
“Thank you, thank you so much for the opportunity in giving me you[r] blessing in serving you,” she said.
The new councillor further pledged that she would remain committed to the electorate, who voted her into her new job, and assured them that she would work tirelessly in her new responsibility and assignment of transforming the lives of the people.
“The development and empowerment of our communities in our region and constituency is my number one duty,” she pledged.
