New Year or bust: Walvis cops nab 4

FOUR arrests on New Year’s Eve, by the Namibian Police drug law enforcement unit here, brought the number of drug-related arrests for December to 11.

Forty ecstasy tablets were confiscated from four young people at Swakopmund, Police said. Police put their total value at N$4 800 (N$120 per tablet).Anton Erasmus (23) was arrested at a house in Ugab Street just after midnight with eight tablets in his possession.The same night, Clinton Malande (21) and Deon Cloete (25) were arrested at a Swakopmund house.Police said 14 tablets were found on them.The fourth person arrested was Andrea Helena Feres (24), allegedly in possession of 18 tablets.All four suspects appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on Friday.Their cases were postponed to April.All four were granted bail: Erasmus paid N$500; Malande and Cloete N$600 each; and Feres N$1 000.At the beginning of December, Police arrested seven people at various locations in Walvis Bay and Usakos.Drugs valued at more than N$36 000 were confiscated, including dagga, ecstasy and Mandrax tablets.The Police have again been reacting to tip-offs from the public.Chief Inspector Sydney Philander again encouraged the public to tell Police if they have any information regarding drug deals.The unit’s phone numbers are (064) 219000 and (064) 219030.Police put their total value at N$4 800 (N$120 per tablet).
