National Assembly speaker Peter Katjavivi says Angela Didiza, the newly elected speaker of South Africa’s parliament, has the ability to lead the parliament with distinction.
He says he is confident of her capabilities, drawing on her extensive experience in various ministerial positions.
Katjavivi in, a statement issued on Sunday, said Didiza, who is the country’s agriculture minister, will play an essential role in upholding and strengthening the democratic values cherished by both Namibia and South Africa.
“Your election comes at a pivotal time, and I am confident that under your able leadership, the National Assembly will continue to uphold and strengthen the democratic values that our two nations so dearly cherish,” Katjavivi said.
Katjavivi also called for enhanced cooperation between the two nations, particularly within the framework of the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum, which is soon to be transformed into a Regional Parliament.
“I look forward to working closely with you to strengthen the ties between our parliaments and to promote the welfare of the people of our two nations,” Katjavivi said.
