Hangala Foods has introduced Otavi Golden Maize, a locally produced maize meal, to the market.
The product comes from the Ombanje Farm in the Otavi area, where the Hangala family began farming maize more than 23 years ago.
Founder Leake Hangala and his family bought the farm and invested in both land and the idea that Namibia could rely more on its own food systems.
According to Hangala, this approach aims to keep value in the country, stabilise prices and create more employment opportunities.
“As we grow, so do our contributions to Namibia’s agricultural resilience and food sovereignty,” Hangala says.
“Otavi Golden Maize is more than just a maize meal. It represents the potential within our country and what we can achieve with commitment and innovation,” he adds.
Otavi Golden Maize is produced at Hangala Foods’ Ombanje Milling Plant, a modern facility built to ensure quality and efficiency.
The N$35-million plant took 18 months to construct and employed 120 workers during that period. It has a milling capacity of 50 tonnes per day, two silos of 500 tonnes each, and operates on two shifts. The plant has also created 38 permanent jobs in the region.
Otavi Golden Maize is available in three varieties, Super Maize Meal, Special Sifted Maize Meal and Unsifted Maize Meal.
